The hardware industry seems to be looking for “the next big thing”.  The iPhone has definitely revolutionize the way we communicate, get our news, stay connected with friends, track our sleep, track our fitness, and do just about anything else you can think about!  What will be the next big thing after touchscreen smartphones?

Google has been one of companies that has been the center of what some think might be the next market in hardware, or should I say “wearable tech”.

Wearable technology, also known as tech togs, or fashion electronics are clothing and accessories incorporating computer and advanced electronic technologies.  I remember back in the early 90′ I used to own some wearable tech.  A calculator watch!  Yes I went there.

Anyway,  there are people that believe that wearable tech is just a “fad” and will not materialize into a huge market.  Others believe due to hardware limitations it won’t succeed as of now.  I personally  believe there is a huge market but it just needs to be perfected.  Just look at Pebble.  They reportedly sold over than 400,000 units in 2013.

Currently Google is collaborating with top names in both tech and fashion to create Android Wear devices, which will sport touch screens and start to arriving this summer (2014).  They are also working with brands like HTC, LG, Samsung, Qualcomm and high-end watch maker Fossil.  So far what they have demonstrated seems very interesting.  Check out the video below.
